Despite storm Boelo’s best efforts, we were out in force at Wells’ Market yesterday morning, promoting the afternoon’s launch event. The Town Cryer did his bit and our handbell ringers assisted by accompanying him.
To promote the event, including during the previous Saturday market, we hand distributed nearly 1000 information leaflets around the city and to damp market goers. This meant we were able to tell locals about the project even if they were unable to come to the afternoon event.
We had a steady stream of visitors to St Cuthbert’s Church during our launch event, and they ranged from pre-school age to the elderly. We gave talks and had activities for children – and of course some tasty refreshments.
We ran 5 tower tours up to the ringing chamber and the belfry. Everyone who took part had a wonderful time and were very interested in having a go at ringing themselves and seeing the bells – especially the two primary age children who went up.
